Best Vanilla around Los Cinco Soles

Posted on by Kay Rodewald

Here’s a little baking tip from my kitchen to yours.

I just received my years supply of Vanilla from my favorite supplier in Cozumel, Mexico.  Los Cinco Soles Natural Gourmet Vanilla.  I use a lot of vanilla when I’m baking all year round for cookies and muffins.  This is the best!  A 1000 ML bottle is $16.95 plus $15.95 for shipping and handling.   I would prefer to go to Cozumel personally during the Winter months to buy it, but that didn’t happen this year.  So, you can order it on line at www.loscincosoles.com   like me.

Another place I love and I’m sure many of you are aware of is Penzeys Spices, Wauwatosa, WI.  Their spices are a thousand times better than anything you can buy in the grocery store.  I use the  Penzeys Cinnamon  for breakfast which is a blend of China, Vietnamese, Korintje and Ceylon Cinnamons.  I also use the Dill Weed, India Tellicherry Peppercorns and Northwoods Seasoning.  Check out their website at www.penzeys.com or call for a copy of their catalog filled with wonderful recipes 1-800-741-7787.

As always, we’d love to have you as our guests so you to can enjoy our “Skip Lunch” breakfast at the Red Forest B&B.

I am excited to finally start planting my flowers.  I would estimate that we are at least two weeks behind.   It will be awhile before my garden looks like this again.

June in Two Rivers & Manitowoc is packed full of fun and adventure.  Here are a few of the events I’m highlighting for the month.  For a complete list, go to www.manitowoc.info/events.html

Memorial Day

Posted on by Kay Rodewald

Today I can’t help but think of Ghandi’s famous quote, “Be the change that you want to see in the world.” All of the men and women that we celebrate today lost their lives here on Earth being the change that they wanted to see in the world – either fighting to gain or retain. I hope everyone does something in honor of this day. Make sure that your children know why they don’t have school; attend a parade; buy a poppy from a vet; thank a vet; attend a ceremony or take a walk through a cemetery. Those who we celebrate today made a sacrifice for the greater good of this nation. It saddens me that so many people get caught up in their daily lives and narrow-minded beliefs and forget to look at the big picture of our nation as a whole. Those we honor today sacrificed their lives for the greater good of this country. What are you willing to sacrifice to help for the greater good? The opportunities are endless. God Bless America.
