The warm weather has made it’s way to Two Rivers. Time to dust off the bikes and hit the trails. Sunday, Alan and I went for our first bike ride of the season on the Rawley Point Trail into Point Beach State Forest. It was great to see everything green and growing, hearing the frogs in the ponds, and smelling the fresh air of the forest. It was great! (Except for my sore seat on the ride home.) So, make your plans now, strap those bikes on the car, and give me a call at the Red Forest Bed and Breakfast, 920-793-1794 so you to can enjoy this same ride for yourself.

New this year at the Red Forest, we will have bikes available at the inn for guest to rent. We have a new bike shop in town called the Broken Spoke Bike Studio. They have agreed to loan me bikes for the summer for our guests to rent. The cost is $30. for a full day and $20. for a half day per bike. They also have tandems available for a full day at $40. and a half day at $30. Hope to see you soon!

I think I’m hearing a resounding “YES” in agreement. Usually our chance to get-a-way is sometime during the winter months. Even though we’ve had a very mild winter, we left the frozen tundra the end of February for Caribbean sunshine and warm ocean breezes. We boarded the Norwegian Epic and sailed to St. Maarten, St. Thomas, and Nassau. Our daily activities consisted of sleeping late, eating, basking in the sun, eating, napping, drinking, and eating. We did also venture off of the ship for a few island excursions. All in all, it was a very relaxing and laid back trip. Now that the innkeepers are recharged, we are back into the swing of things at the inn. Ready to welcome you to the Red Forest Bed and Breakfast for your chance to get-a-way and relax. We will do our very best to offer you a chance to slow down, sit awhile, and enjoy time with that special person in your life. Instead of warm ocean breezes, enjoy our cool lake breezes on a hot summer day. A walk on our sugar sand beaches will transform you to another place.

Give us a call at 1-888-250-2272 for your get-a-way today!

A cooking class at L’ecole de la Maison was the “Gift to Experience” for my daughter Jody, daughter-in-law Kathy, and myself. On January 14 we met at the Osthoff Resort in Elkhart Lake for a six hour cooking class on Northern Italian Trattoria cuisine. This is truly a hands’ on cooking experience. There were ten people in our class. We all had an opportunity to dig into 14 different recipes using the beautiful kitchen facilities of the L’ecole de la Maison all guided by our chef instructor Chef Scott Baker. We made, Polenta with Gorgonzola, Prosciutto di Parma and Roasted Mushrooms, Fennel and Blood Orange Salad with Parmesan Walut Crisp, Seafood and Spinach Rotolo with Sauce Aurora, Osso Bucco with Risotto Milanese and Garlic Rapini, Ciabatta Bread with Olives, and Classic Tiramisu. Plus, we also sat down and enjoy everything we made. Chef Scott does a wonderful job of explaining and demonstrating the fundamentals of European cooking and baking techniques. Check out their website at www.cookingschoolatosthoff.com for additional classes and dates.

The three of us had a great time at the class cooking, but the best part was being able to spend family time with both of them for the day. Love you both!

This year I decided instead of buying the “sweater or slipper gifts”, to buy our family “A Gift to Experience”. This will hopefully be a fun time with our family. I’ll let you know next month how it turned out.

How often are you asked, “What would you like for Christmas?” and your mind goes blank. You really don’t need anything in particular and if you did, you probably would buy it yourself when needed. Gift cards are nice, but it is still sort of like buying a gift for yourself. If someone gives you cash as a gift, I know in our house, it usually is spent on paying after Christmas bills. So, why not give A Gift to Experience? The experience of being able to relax by the fireplace, sleeping in late, and having a full delicious breakfast awaken your senses. If this sounds like a gift you would like to receive or give to someone else, just give me a call at 1-888-250-2272 and I would be happy to send out a gift certificate to you for a stay at the Red Forest Bed and Breakfast where you can “Experience the Charm, and Feel the Difference”. I’ll even add an additional $15.00 value on to your certificate as a special “Thank You” from all of us at the Red Forest. We would like to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year from our family to yours.

The past several months the we have had the honor of having several guests from all over the country journeying to Green Bay for, to them, a once maybe twice in a lifetime experience of going to a Lambeau Field to see the Green Bay Packers play. The excitement of going to Lambeau starts that morning when the guests come to the breakfast table with all of their “Packer Paraphernalia” ( jerseys, hats, socks, earrings, etc.) Many are also in pursuit of a coveted “Cheese Head”.

So here’s a hint, if you are planning a trip to Lambeau Field to see the Green Bay Packer, give us a call at the Red Forest Bed and Breakfast, 920-793-1794, or on the web at www.redforestbb.com. We’d love to have you as our guest. We are located about 35 minutes south of Green Bay along the lake shore. I promise you, our rates are not inflated for game day like the Green Bay area and it is only a short drive, plus you will get a great breakfast to start your day.

11-0-0 after beating the Lions on Thanksgiving Day, the Packers are on track to take the NFC North Division and on to the NFC Championship and a repeat of the 2010 Super Bowl. We’ll see you in Indianapolis! Go Pack Go!

Even though we are the owners of this beautiful house, sometimes it feels like we are only the caretakers that have been entrusted with it’s care for this short time period of the life of this house. This summer my husband Alan took on the challenge for the second time (he vows it will be his last time) of painting the exterior of our 40′ high home. The first time he did it with ladders, this time we rented an articulated boom which worked great. Two weekends of 10 – 12 hour days he got her done! Thanks Alan!

Many times our guests might not have the opportunity to meet Alan during their short stays, but he is the other half that keeps this bed and breakfast going and looking great. I certainly couldn’t do this business without him. Love You!

Seriously, can we go back and repeat August again? Summer is so short and it seems as if it flew by. August was Class Reunion Month at the Red Forest. We had guests coming back for reunions at Two Rivers’ Washington High School, Manitowoc’s Lincoln High School and my own Class of 1971 from Manitowoc Lutheran High School. Yes, 40 years! It was fun having the opportunity to see and visit with everyone that made the effort to come. Our appearances might have changed, but we are still the same person inside.

Sharon was glad she had the chance to catch up with an old boyfriend. Kathy and Laurie had pizza on the patio and reminisced about the old neighborhood, and Gary and Terri, high school sweethearts, returned for their 35 Reunion for the first time. If you went to Washington High School in Two Rivers and have a class reunion coming up, give us a call, you will remember walking past our house, or did you cross the river during the winter on the ice?

Happy Labor Day Weekend, if you happen to be in Two Rivers this weekend, be sure to check out our beautiful beach. Kites Over Lake Michigan will be at Neshotah Beach Saturday and Sunday, September 3 & 4. Where everyone can, Go Fly A Kite!

68 Degrees in Two Rivers and loving it! Don’t get me wrong, we’ve had a few hot days (high 80′s), and I’m sure we will have a few more to come, but on the average, Two Rivers is keeping the tradition of being the “Coolest Spot in Wisconsin”. The very best place to keep cool is relaxing on our beautiful sugar sand beach at Neshoto Park, Two Rivers. We managed to spend some beach time there with the family the 4th of July Weekend. It was great!

Join us this weekend, July 15, 16, & 17 for the Kiwanis Fish Derby. Lots of Fun, Food, and Fish! Speaking of fish, if fishing on the “Big Pond” is your thing, now is the time to get out there and catch the fish of a lifetime. The 3 and 4 year old Salmon averaging 15 – 25 pounds are biting great right now! I’m sure that there is a fish out there with your name on it. Give me a call, I work with 10 different charter captains that go out of the Port of Two Rivers. They are all members of the Two Rivers Charter Fishing Association. I would be glad to “Hook you up”. Check out my specials page for the charter fishing discount.

One last reminder, don’t forget your bikes, Alan and I just biked the Mariner’s Trail tonight. The full moon was just coming up over the lake. Loved it!

We had a beautiful weekend for all of the Harley enthusiasts to do their favorite thing, RIDE. A special “Thank You” to our guests Ron & Cindy, Craig & Nancy, Keith & Lori and Ralph & Tracey. They came as strangers and after a few cocktails on the patio left as friends who will probably run into each other on another ride somewhere on their Harley’s. It was a pleasure meeting all of you and having you as our guests. Hope to see you again!
